How Opponents are Fighting the CA High Speed Rail Project

As engineers draw up plans for California's high-speed rail system, opponents are drafting their own strategies -- from lawsuits to ballot measures -- to change, delay or perhaps even kill it.

This article focuses on local initiatives, lobbying, and lawsuits. There is plenty of each going on.  But I'd point out the other big factor--funding.  The CA HSR authority is counting on local governments to cough up at least $4 billion to fund the project.  a) most of them are broke. b) at least half a dozen of them now oppose the project, so they sure are not going to pony up big bucks to help fund it.

There are a lot of weak and wobbly legs on this stool.
