Rhode Island ranks last in the nation in state highway performance and cost-effectiveness, falling one spot from last year’s report. Rhode Island ranks 43rd in total highway disbursements, 3rd in fatalities, 50th in deficient or functionally obsolete bridges and 41st in urban Interstate congestion. Rhode Island’s best rankings come in rural Interstate condition (1st), urban Interstate condition (1st) and fatality rates (3rd). Rhode Island’s lowest rankings are in deficient or functionally obsolete bridges (50th), rural other principal arterial condition (49th) and state-controlled highway miles (49th).
