"Your adamant, eloquent defenses of free market economics have proved invaluable in the fight against an ever-expanding American government." - Dick Armey, Retired Congressman and House Majority Leader
"Your organization’s innovative work in privatization demonstrates that it is possible to cut costs while improving government services." - Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush
Transportation Secretary Mary Peters, Gov. Rick Perry Praised as "Innovators in Action" Reason Foundation publication features trendsetters who are reforming government The Reason Foundation is heralding U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters and Texas Gov. Rick Perry as "Innovators in Action" for their work in developing fresh solutions to cope with our growing infrastructure and traffic problems. In Innovators in Action 2008, Ms. Peters and Gov. Perry author columns explaining their visions and policy prescriptions for the future of transportation funding and construction. "From crumbling roads to collapsing bridges to gridlocked roads, our nation's infrastructure is in desperate need of repair and expansion," said Leonard Gilroy, editor of Innovators in Action and director of government reform at Reason Foundation. "Governor Perry and Secretary Peters have led us down a new path, a path that shows there are better and more sustainable ways to fund, build and operate infrastructure. Their leadership offers hope that after years of falling behind, we can build a 21st century transportation system that protects our mobility and spurs the economy." Several other public officials, including former U.S. Comptroller General David M. Walker, Utah state legislators Howard Stephenson and Craig Frank, New Jersey state senator Raymond Lesniak, and King County (WA) Executive Ron Sims are also featured in Innovators in Action on topics ranging from transportation to school choice to privatization.

Federal Competitive Sourcing Saved Taxpayers $7.2 Billion Over the Last Five Years Reason Foundation's Annual Privatization Report says public-private partnership infrastructure projects in various stages of development are worth $104 billion The federal government's competitive sourcing efforts saved taxpayers $7.2 billion over the last five years, according to Reason Foundation's 22nd Annual Privatization Report. Competitive sourcing allows the private sector to compete for jobs and contracts that are currently performed by the government. Federal employees actually won 83 percent of the job competitions from fiscal 2003 through fiscal 2007. But taxpayers are the real winners: the Annual Privatization Report shows taxpayers save $25,000 for every job that is put up for competition because even when the government keeps the job it significantly improves efficiency and reduces costs. Reason Foundation's Annual Privatization Report, edited by Leonard Gilroy, examines the latest trends in privatization and public-private partnerships at the federal, state and local levels. With as many as 23 states potentially facing budget deficits in fiscal 2009, state governments are increasingly looking for ways to cut costs without cutting services. Enter the private sector.

Obama, Brownback and Paul Promise Executive Order Mandating Google Government Coalition of 36 groups calling for "most transparent" presidential administration ever Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) have signed oaths declaring that, should they win the presidency in 2008, they will issue an executive order during their first month in office instructing the entire executive branch to put into practice the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006, a Google-like search tool will allow you to see how your tax dollars are being spent on federal contracts, grants and earmarks. All of the major presidential candidates have been invited to sign the "oath of presidential transparency" which is being promoted by a diverse coalition of 36 groups, led by Reason Foundation, a libertarian think tank that has advised the last four presidential administrations. "The next president should be committed to transparency and accountability," said Adrian Moore, vice president of research at Reason Foundation. "Redesigning the federal government so that it is more accountable to taxpayers is a nonpartisan issue. Transparency will help produce a government focused on results instead of our current system, which is plagued by secrecy, wasteful spending and pork projects."
