A Toke for Liberty

Michigan became the first Midwestern state – and the 13th state in America -- to legalize medical marijuana after voters approved a ballot proposal by a whopping 63-47% margin as of early vote counts. The measure, that was opposed by a wide coalition of law enforcement officials, health organizations and business groups, is a victory for patients, and a sensible drug policy – especially given that the liberty-trampling, states-rights-chomping Bushies are out of the door.

Another initiative removing the constitutional ban on stem cell research is also headed for a narrow victory, as of this writing. If it passes, this won’t be such a terrible day for liberty in the land of the Great Lakes.
