Reason Speakeasy: Jonathan Haidt on The Anxious Generation

  • This event has passed.

April 15 @ 6:30 pm 9:00 pm

The Reason Speakeasy is a monthly, unscripted conversation with outspoken defenders of free expression and heterodox thinking. It doubles as a live taping of The Reason Interview with Nick Gillespie podcast.

On April 15, Nick will interview NYU psychologist Jonathan Haidt, the founder of Heterodox Academy, which seeks to create intellectual diversity in higher education. In 2018, Jonathan co-authored (with FIRE’s Greg Lukianoff) The Coddling of the American Mind, which documented how colleges and universities had become the enemies of a rich intellectual and cultural life. His new book, The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness, is a deep dive into how social and technological shifts have harmed younger Americans and a call to cultural and political action when it comes to social media and smartphones.

The event is being held at the Blue Building, located at 222 E. 46th St. in Midtown. Tickets are $10 and include wine, beer, and light bites. The pre-show reception starts at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:00 p.m.
